Junkyard Blues

Over the summer I worked part time at a junkyard I used to work at in FT. Pierce, FL. We had the job of cleaning out am oil sifter. The oil and other liquids drained from cars collect in this pool where the pollutants separate from the water so they can be properly disposed of. Threw my camera in a few plastic bags and took shots until my hands were covered in too much oil to grab the camera. 

Sea Turtle

Every Summer when I go to the beach I walk a few miles at night looking for sea turtles who come on shore to lay eggs. I was by myself this night and found one just before I was going to turn back. There was no moon this night so it was extremely dark. The images of the sand and nest are about a two minute exposure and the turtle crawling to the water were shot at f/1.4 at 3200 ISO 1.6sec. exposure; explaining the grain and motion. The light coming from down the beach is light pollution. Hopefully I will make it back to the beach to see the eggs hatch.

Get a Board

I am part of a nonprofit foundation called Get a Board. We teach inner city kids how to skate and surf. Most of the kids have never seen a surfboard or skateboard before so we either take boards to them or piles the kids into a bus and drive them to the beach for the day.

These photos are from a homeless shelter in Orlando where all of these kids live with their families. This was the second visit so some kids were able to stand and skate and try a small ramp we brought. When we get enough skateboards we are going to give one to every kid who we taught this summer and let them paint it however they want.

Ringflash

A friend gave me a ringflash about a year ago. It attaches to me camera flash so I consider it a fake ringflash but it still produces the same effect. I've never really shot any fashion type photos but my friend Alex Martinez modeled for me. It was fun practice, may start doing more of it.

Fishing the Flats

I went red fishing in Titusville, FL last week with a friend on his new boat. It was a really overcast morning and the fish weren't biting so I switched from fishing to shooting pics.

Easter at the Grandparents

I spent the Easter holiday in Bonita Springs, FL with my grandparents and a lot of my family. They live in a retirement community which consists of trailers of all different sizes and colors with an array of lawn decorations. The night shots are all long exposures, I mostly shot my Papa and the strange community they live in. All images were shot with Kodak Portra 160NC 35mm film.

Tin Types

This was another class assignment in my alternative processes class. We coated our own plates and developed on the tin using positives and an enlarger. This is my favorite process for developing photos, we only developed using this process for about two weeks, I wish there was more time so I could perfect my images a bit.
These are a few of my favorites, the first two are long exposures of construction at a nearby hospital and the portrait was taken in the studio at a high aperture.
